NOTE / PERMISSIONS

Permissions, explained

Every capability should have a clear purpose.

Applies to the current Android Release and this website. Updated September 21, 2026.

1. Photos & files

Android pickers grant access to the images or files you select when adding images or importing/exporting backups; broad gallery access is not requested. An external camera app handles its own permissions when taking a photo.

2. Notifications & exact alarms

Used for checklist reminders and sync-task status notifications. Denying notification or exact-alarm access may affect reminder visibility or timing, not basic note-taking. Manage these in Android notification settings and special app access.

3. Fingerprint / biometrics

When you enable the app lock, Android performs verification. Note receives the result, not raw fingerprint or face data. Turn it off in app settings.

4. Network & background work

Internet and network-state access support Drive, analytics, crash reporting, and web links. Foreground data-sync service, wake-lock, and boot-receive capabilities help execute or recover sync, cleanup, and reminder tasks. Android battery restrictions still apply.

5. Google account & Drive

These are permissions on Google’s authorization screen, not full-device storage access. Sign-in requests basic identity, email, and drive.file for optional backup and sync. Disconnect in settings or revoke the third-party connection in Google Account; neither automatically deletes backups.

6. Advertising identifiers & install attribution

The current app retains advertising ID, Android advertising-services, and install-referrer declarations and SDKs, while ad display is not enabled. Analytics SDKs may use identifiers where permitted. System privacy controls manage advertising identifiers; this does not turn off all Firebase analytics.
